The PCH begins near San Diego and extends northward into Oregon and Washington. At the time, much of the construction was considered an engineering marvel as roads were literally carved out of the sides of mountains and through giant Sequoia forests. In many places, the drive is slow going with cliffs on one side and the Pacific Ocean on others. If you’re ever able to make the trip, stop as much as you can. The residents who call this place home are proud, independent, and are thankful for your tourism dollars. Big Sur is a favorite stop as is multiple beaches, rock formations and incredible Bixby Bridge. Enjoy Monterey if you can. Great food, music, and a rich nautical history can be found here. It’s a place I plan to return to many times.
